What Is Curcumin?
Curcumin is part of a family of substances called “curcuminoids” found naturally in turmeric, an aromatic plant in the ginger family. Native to South Asia, turmeric has been used for centuries both medicinally and as a seasoning in India. The plant’s striking yellow rhizomes take their color from curcumin.

The investigators concluded that, “curcumin has good anti-inflammatory properties, and curcumin regulates NF-κB, MAPK, AP-1, JAK/STAT and other signaling pathways, and inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators.” [2]
These and other clinical studies favor the use of curcumin as a safe and healthy supplement to support an active lifestyle.
Pain Management
Pain and inflammation often go hand-in-hand. Inflammation in the joints, for example, can lead to pain and swelling, and if untreated, could limit mobility. Successful control of chronic pain has long been a goal for scientists, who have increasingly turned their attention to the pain management properties of natural substances like curcumin.
A 2019 study by Shep and colleagues published in the journal Trials compared curcumin and diclofenac treatment in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. Because many OA patients struggle with the side-effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the investigators sought to explore curcumin as a natural alternative. They found that, “Curcumin has similar efficacy to diclofenac but demonstrated better tolerance among patients with knee OA.” [3]
A 2018 review by Sun and coworkers in Phytomedicine examined the effects of Curcura longa (curcumin’s source) in patients with chronic pain caused by peripheral nerve injury or inflammation. The investigators reviewed articles published between 1976 and 2018 and concluded that, “Although the mechanisms of pain mitigating effects are not very clear, there is compelling evidence proving that curcumin plays an essential role.” [4]
Antioxidant Properties
The disruptive and damaging role of free radicals in pathologic processes is now widely understood in the health community. Free radicals are a species of highly reactive molecules with a characteristic of an unpaired electron in their outer orbit. This electron is hungry to bond with other atoms and can disrupt healthy biological processes. Free radicals can damage vital cells, leading to an inflammatory response and subsequent pain.

There’s no need to build up the scale of this conversation in your head.
This often leads us to isolating the teenager and pulling them into our office for “a talk”.
This can create a formal atmosphere that only encourages your child to clam up.
We find it far more effective to allow the chat to happen during a casual activity. Perhaps you’re washing the car, going to get groceries, or playing a game.
You’re asking your teen to be vulnerable, which is hard to do at any age. Building a relaxed atmosphere for your conversation will only help!
These conversations can seem daunting, and as a result we often feel like we need to prepare some sort of speech for the occasion.
We understand this impulse… but we don’t recommend following it.
Teenagers spend much of their day in school being lectured to. The last thing they’ll want is to find something similar at home.

After all… you can’t SEE your heart… and you can’t necessarily FEEL it either. Well, other than your pulse, of course. (If you can’t feel that… You need to call someone. Like, right now.)
However, this doesn’t mean our heart won’t send us messages when it needs a little TLC…
… It’s just that some of them aren’t quite as obvious as we’d like.
Here are 5 unusual warning signs of an unhealthy heart… And remember… If you have any suspicion that you could be experiencing heart trouble, immediately get in touch with your physician.
Many of us would naturally expect chest pains to signify an unhealthy heart… and they certainly can.
However, perhaps less obviously related, are pains in your left arm and shoulder.
So, what does your left arm have to do with your heart?
Well, this is a sensation known as ‘referred pain’.
The nerves in your heart and the nerves located in your left arm send messages to the same pain center in your brain.
So, it’s actually pretty common for the brain to confuse problems with your heart as trouble with your left arm.
Make no mistake: if you are experiencing other common heart trouble symptoms (like shortness of breath or chest pain) accompanied by consistent discomfort in your left arm… You need to seek medical attention immediately.
This is especially prevalent in males.
It’s easy to write off a disinterest in physical intimacy or trouble getting an erection as a consequence of emotional stressors… And that can certainly be the case.
But, research has also suggested it can be a sign of heart trouble.
An erection is achieved by extra blood surging toward the penis, causing the blood vessels to swell.
So, if the passageways the blood uses to get to the penis are starting to become obstructed or compromised, it can make it quite difficult to sustain an erection.
It’s also possible for females to experience a diminished libido due to obstructed blood flow toward their genital area.
In short: don’t write off a symptom like this as “just a sexual issue”.

This is a condition that obstructs us from breathing properly during sleep. When our breathing is obscured… we can start to snore.

Reading is a great way to warm up your brain for the work day.
It doesn’t have to be anything dense, and you don’t have to do it for long.
But by engaging in this activity for even 10 minutes, you give your brain the opportunity to start processing information and waking itself up.

We’ve already touched on this by encouraging you to express gratitude.
However, writing can do more than just facilitate a positive mood.
It can also help us clear our mind.
When you wake up, your mind is often cluttered with various different thoughts and ideas that your brain hasn’t had a chance to organize yet.
By simply sitting and writing, you give your brain the opportunity to work through these things before the day begins.
To be clear, don’t worry about the writing being “good”. It doesn't have to be structured, or as long as a novel or even a blog post.
Again, even 10 minutes a day can make a world of difference.
Many of us are fearful of being unproductive or slow, so we simply rush headfirst into our day without taking the time to understand where we’re going.
Before you really dig into your day, take a moment to visualize and articulate what the most successful version of this day looks like.
This gives you a target at which to aim. Now all you have to do… is shoot!
This piggybacks nicely off of visualizations and affirmations.
With so many of us charging into the day without a target, we often spend time on tasks that aren’t particularly helpful or impactful for where we want to go.
In short, we end up working harder on things that matter less, as opposed to smarter on things that matter more.
Creating a schedule the night before is a great way to avoid this pitfall.
Sit down, and think of the biggest goal to be achieved the following day.
Then simply schedule your day as specifically as possible in accordance with achieving it.
Take the time to truly understand what needs to get done in order to reach your goal… and what other tasks will get in the way of you achieving it.
Many people assume that being productive requires us to really energize our mornings… we turn the music up to 11, run a couple of miles, and guzzle a couple of cups of coffee.
These actions may work for some people.
However, many successful people report doing just the opposite.
They find time for silence… and stillness.
