Upgrade Your Hay Fever and Seasonal Allergy Relief!

In helping produce a healthy ecosystem, the importance of pollen cannot be understated. However, for many of us it can also bring a great deal of discomfort.

According to research conducted by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology more than 25 million Americans suffer from hay fever (allergic rhinitis) each year.

This blog is going to help you take some simple, natural steps towards helping you upgrade your allergy relief in your own home!

Before we begin... Do you know what an allergic reaction is?

This question may sound redundant, especially in the case of seasonal allergies.

“Obviously, I’m allergic to pollen. Pollen isn’t compatible with my body, so my body hurts.”

Well, it’s actually a lot more complicated than that! Are you ready for a twist?

As it turns out, your body likely doesn’t have much of a problem with pollen at all! It just thinks it does…

Your immune system is confused!

An allergic response is your body overreacting to a perceived threat. Pollen isn't actually harmful, your immune system just thinks that it is, so it responds accordingly.

As a result, it’s vital that your allergy support protocol addresses your immune system with this in mind.

It should support and nourish your immune system instead of stimulating or suppressing it.

Once you’ve done that, we can begin with the at-home improvements that will make your life easier!

Keeping the home free from pollen.

If your body is going to be fighting pollen outdoors, then keeping your indoors as a place it can rest is very important.

Considering pollen is very difficult to see, keeping it out of the home definitely has its challenges.

However, there are a few simple steps you can take that will start to help keep pollen from nestling in your sinuses.

Keep your doors and windows closed.

It’s tempting to let the cool breeze in on a nice summer day, but if you suffer from hay fever or seasonal allergies, do this sparingly.

While a cool breeze may carry in a wave of comfort, it can also carry in a lot of pollen.

Keep different clothes for indoors and outside.

One of the easiest ways for pollen to enter your home is by hitching a ride on your clothes.

By keeping different clothes for indoors and outside, this becomes a simple task to manage.

Shower before bed.

Aside from your clothes, pollen can also attach itself to the strands of your hair.

Once indoors it can also easily attach itself to other fabric such as your pajamas or bedding. For this reason, taking a shower before laying in bed will help you breathe easy while you sleep.

Wash your bedding at least once a week.

There are 168 hours in a week, and we spend roughly 55 of them sleeping in bed. So, let’s make sure we’re not spending all that time breathing pollen!

Hot soapy water will help keep your bedding fresh and free from seasonal allergens.

Filter your air.

Keeping the air in your house as clean as possible will help keep your allergic reactions at bay.

Investing in the best quality HEPA air filters and keeping them well-maintained will go a long way to making sure your house is kept free from pollen.

I feel I’ve done all I can… and I’m still sneezing!

If you feel you are taking all the necessary protocols within your own home to keep it free of pollen, and yet still find yourself struggling with your sinus irritation, then it may be time to analyze the allergy relief you’re taking.
