Drink water and avoid diuretics!
Many people will attempt to keep their blood clean by consuming diuretics. The assumption is based on diuretics stimulating your bladder. If you’re urinating more often, you must be filtering your blood more as well, right?

Don’t overdo it, as overhydration will bring you a whole slew of other problems, and won’t do your kidneys any favors.
Diuretics such as coffee and soda and yes, even some herbs, actually dehydrate you. Many have also been shown to bring more impurities to the bloodstream, such as an increased amount of uric acid.
Maintain healthy blood pressure.
This is a wise practice anyway, but it’s especially important if you want to maintain healthy kidney function.
The parts of your kidneys that filter your blood are called nephrons. Like any part of your body, they require the proper nutrients and oxygen to function optimally.
High blood pressure can cause the arteries that bring blood to the kidneys to narrow or harden. This will impact the amount of blood that can reach the kidneys.
When supplied with less oxygen and nutrients, nephrons will start to become ineffective.
Healthy blood pressure and healthy kidneys actually work together. Your kidneys produce a hormone called aldosterone that helps regulate healthy blood pressure.
When your kidneys aren’t working properly, you can be sure they won’t produce an effective amount of aldosterone.
If you are ignoring the health of either your kidneys or blood pressure, the other will also suffer.
Limit the foods that give kidneys a hard time.
It sounds simple, but it’s true.
Apart from the strain that alcohol can put on blood pressure, it also has a tenuous relationship with the kidneys.
Exogenous purines are a chemical compound that is present in many of the foods we eat. They are broken down by our body as part of the metabolic process.
A byproduct of this process is uric acid. This is absorbed into the bloodstream, removed by the kidneys, and ejected through urine.
Some foods have a higher concentration of exogenous purines than others, and beer is one of them.
More uric acid will cause your kidneys to work harder. If your kidneys can’t keep up, this can cause a build-up of uric acid which can then lead to incredibly painful arthritic issues.
Kick your smoking habit.
As if you needed another reason, smoking can lead to serious kidney problems.
Smoking can cause blood flow to slow drastically.
Slower blood flow means that necessary nutrients and oxygen aren’t circulating to the organs that need them as quickly as they should. The nephrons in your kidneys that filter impurities from your blood will start to slow down as well.
If your kidneys aren’t working to their maximum potential, your blood will not be as clean as it should be. This can lead to a whole host of problems.
There’s only so much you can do.
Maintaining healthy kidneys is one thing. Trying to save kidneys that are already compromised is a different matter entirely.
