Cordyceps Offers Energy and Health Benefits

Cordyceps is being scientifically studied to verify the many health claims from its long history of use in herbal traditions, dating back some 5,000 years in China and Tibet.

Once reserved for the Emperor of China, the beneficial properties of cordyceps first came to the attention of farmers and herders observing that animals who ate them grew stronger. That led to the mushrooms being gathered, dried and used in teas and tonics. Its beneficial qualities and applications were officially documented during the Qing dynasty, and it gained approval from the Chinese Ministry of Health in 1964, when it was registered in the Chinese Pharmacopeia.

Traditional healers in Sikkim recommend cordyceps as a tonic to help improve energy, appetite, stamina, libido, endurance and healthy sleeping patterns.

Supporting energy and endurance

The energy and endurance boosting effects of cordyceps are linked to its supporting healthy blood flow and enhancing the ability to deliver oxygen throughout the body and use it more efficiently. Cordyceps contains adenosine, a nucleic acid that the body uses to make ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a complex organic chemical that is considered to be the energy currency of life – it stores the energy we need and drives processes in living cells. As ATP is depleted during physical activity, cordyceps has been studied for its ability to boost human exercise performance; favorable reports came from two studies of healthy older adults, although it has not been shown to enhance performance in trained athletes.

Enhancing immune system function

Cordyceps is considered to be “immune-potentiating,” enhancing the function of the immune system and optimizing health. It has beneficial effects on several major organs – it is heart-protective and supports healthy liver and kidney function, and it helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

It contains polysaccharides, nucleosides and cyclosporines, and it is rich with antioxidant constituents that help neutralize free radicals.

What is cordyceps?

We wanted to tell you about the good it does before we described it – a club-like fungus that lives on certain caterpillars in high elevations in China’s Tibetan plateau. It can be gathered wild, although it is now grown in laboratories – making it more widely available to use in natural supplements and products. You can add it to broth or soups, lattes or shakes, and it is even included in some chocolate bars. A convenient way to tap into its benefits is through our unique and effective natural supplement capsules.

Included in our products

Cordyceps is included in our unique trueENERGY™ formula, the first product developed and offered by Redd Remedies (read more about it here: https://tinyurl.com/yya99amk). We selected it for inclusion in that product and in our recently reformulated Cholesterol Triple Care based on its liver support qualities.
